*Message from Charlie and Matt:
Dear readers, friends, acquaintances and complete strangers:)
Greetings! Charlie and I were visiting with Andy this week and he asked us if we would write you all a quick note. We would like to apologize for our slow response to mail and lack of presence on-line. Michael W. has been keeping us very busy and my computer has continued to perform at a consistent level of "lousy". However, we definitely miss being on-line and are looking forward to a time when we can be more accessible.
First we simply want to thank y'all for your amazing support and enthusiasm and most importantly your many prayers. We have been continually surprised and humbled by the many ways that God has continued to work through us and our music. Doors continue to open and the only explanation is that it is God who is at work here. The last several months with Michael have been particularly exciting, as we have been honored to get to travel and work with him. Not to mention the numerous opportunities we have had outside of the tour visiting various radio stations, clubs, etc.
Some highlights of the tour have been....
~Getting to know and love the guys from Three Crosses: steve, ralphie, eddie, and john.
~Learning humility on the ping-pong table with Michael W. Gump
~Snow skiing in Salt Lake City
~Being encouraged by Belmont Churchs' pastor Don Feunto.
~Passing time in every single mall in america.
~Enlarging our wardrobe at various 'Urban Outfitter' stores scattered across our beautiful nation (if you've been there, you know- if not, get there! :)
~Seeing Gary Chapman, and then meeting his beautiful wife.
Isn't it ironic, don't you think? Yeah, I really do think! :)
This summer, we are looking forward to more touring (we *think* we're looking forward to it!), and should make the rounds again. We'll be playing a variety of different venues, from Christian festivals to radio festivals to clubs to Denny's! Yes, we played at a Denny's (San Diego). We're not too sure about the fall yet, but we're planning on recording in the late fall. We may be on another tour in early fall. We are very anxious to record, and we are trying to write some while we're on the road, though it is difficult. If you get a chance, check out our cover of "Rose Colored Stain Glass Windows" on the Petra tribute album which should be out in May/June. Brent Bourgeois produced it, and we are quite excited about it. We hope to meet more of you this summer. Please continue to pray for us, that we would not be distracted, and that the Lord would continue to humble us with His grace and His will for our lives. Thanks y'all!!
Rock 'n' Roll ;)

*Jars on All My Children:
From: Carol_Keiser@Ministrynet.usa.net
I was watching All My Children (yes, I admit I watch a soap . . . but it's just one--I used to watch three!) last week and guess what I heard!!!???! The scene was at a record store where Laura, a troubled teenage orphan, was about to shop-lift a CD, and sure enough--they were playing "Flood"! I was excited! Of course, I am a bit embarrassed that I was watching AMC, but hey, at least I'm open and honest about it . . . think of all the people that heard your song! Jesus creeps into the funniest places! He's so cool!
From: ebc@mail.wincom.net (Rev. Kyle T. Rolph)
I wanted to let you know that on the Friday March 29th episode of "All My Children" FLOOD was playing in the background of a scene that took place in a music shop. Incidentally one of the characters was caught shoplifting during that scene with FLOOD playing in the background. Thought you might get a kick out of that. I thought it was interesting that a song about sin was being played while a person was being caught in the act. Coincidence? I think not...

*Jars on Conan O'Brien and other TV shows:
[Sorry folks, Jars did not appear on Conan or any others yet - I apologize for the false alarm for those who were informed of their possible appearance. They will hopefully be rescheduled for Conan in early summer and we will keep you all posted.
Also, the Flood video is now in medium rotation on MTV and has been in the nightly requested top 5 quite a few times. Thanks to all for requesting it and please keep it up! :) -Ed.]

I am getting a file together with addresses to write about having JOC as musical guests. So far...I have addresses for SNL, Tonight Show, Late Night With Conan O'Brien and Live With Regis and Kathy Lee. I wanted to do this so that if someone does not have an address to their favorite show about having JOC on, I could help them out. And if there is an address for a program that he/she thinks that JOC will be good on...they are welcome to send it to me.
Anyway, I am still looking for these address:
~The network address for the FX cable network for the shows Breakfast Time and Backchat (About having JOC on FX ;-)
~Morning Talk Shows such as Today Show, Good Morning America and CBS This Morning
~Syndicated Talk Show for "Crook and Case", and others similar like that (*not* Ricki Lake, Jenny Jones or other "Tabloid Talk" addresses).
~Other addresses that the fans think that JOC will be good on.

*Prayer Requests:
From: Amymcdem@aol.com
I just started on a temp-perm job in Brentwood TN.
Pray that this job will lead in to a permament one with a growing company that I wanted to so much ever since I started working again. Also, pray that I won't be "let go" again from this job as well. In the past, I was "let go" from various offices and or companies (I am a front desk receptionist) due to either financial problems or changes from the company and it's really hard when you are trying to get on your feet and try to live on your own life.
Thanks-
Amy

Hey! I just ask that you all prayer for my family. I am at college, but my parents and my brother and sister are in the process of moving from a small town in Kentucky to BRAZIL. My Dad got a new job and I am not sure how well my brother, an upcoming SENIOR, will take the move. I am also not sure if he is a true Christian. He went forward in our church at the same time I did, but I didn't become a Christian then. So in other words, he thinks he is one. Also, one last praise and request is for my grandfather who was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in January. He was given two to six weeks then. At that time, he gave his life to Christ. Through God's mercy he is still alive almost eight weeks later but still fighting for his life. Thanks for the prayers.
Matt Fritz.

A family we know has a 4 month old daughter who has been diagnosed with Epilepsy. She is on a LOT of medication, which they are currently trying to take her off because it hasn't been doing any good. Sometimes she has up to 65 seizures a day. At one point they knew she couldn't see, but that has started to improve. Thanx for praying!

I have another important prayer request. I have a neighbor - his name is Mr. McHugh. He died last thurs. morning. His pride was in the way of going to the doctor. He was a big part of a lot of people's lives. Please pray for his family and friends. I have another prayer request. My friend was recently expelled from school and she has already started her new school. She hates it and it's really hard for her. She needs a lot of prayer. She has a lot of people praying for her already because she has a bad family situation. Will you please pray? Just call her Kelly for now. Thank-you.

I wanted to ask if you'd pray for me because over Easter Vacation I'm going on a missions trip to Poland with Campus Crusade. Our Southern Ca. team has 3 leaders and 8 high school students. We're joining with another group from St. Louis. We leave on March 29 and are there for 2 weeks. We'll be speaking to high schoolers at their schools. I've never been on a mission trip before and am totally excited to see what God has in store for us. Please pray for us.
Thanks so much,
Kim Ceci

I need prayer. This school and the surrounding area are going through huge spiritual changes. I can feel the growing unease of the other students with their lives, and how many are trying to find their way in the darkness. Also, it seems like the more I try to spread the word, the more things have been attacking me, if not directly. This college has a dark cloud over it, but I feel that through constant intercession, the Light can show into it. I also ask you to pray for the Baptist List, for they are becoming more and more lost as they fight with each other for superiority of knowledge. They even call each other hypocrites. There needs to be a great Revival. Thank you, and may God richly bless you for your listening and caring.

Could you put in a prayer request for me since I'll be graduating from college soon and, Lord willing, starting graduate school next Fall. Also, one of my roommates (who is a Christian) just got fired from his job at a drug/alcohol rehab clinic where he was planning on doing his internship this summer, so he could use prayer.

Prayer request:
I am in my last few weeks of student teaching and have really had some eye opening experiences. We have no idea what kids go through these days. I would ask that you would pray for the children of our world - they are our future!

What a difference a year makes! This time last year, Jars' self-titled album wasn't even released yet. Now, they have been nominated for a Grammy & several Dove awards, and are on tour with Michael W. Smith! Although their status in the Christian music world has changed, their love for God has remained constant. This was very evident in their April 11 concert in Indianapolis, IN. After a performance by Three Crosses (who were excellent by the way), Jars took the stage, opening with "Liquid". After several other selections from their album, and much to my dismay, it was time for them to leave the stage. But before they did, Dan wished Aaron's father, who was "in the house", a happy 50th birthday. What an awesome gift to see your son on stage singing about our Lord! Michael then made his grand entrance and rocked the house! It was a fantastic evening filled with praise and worship to our Savior! According to Smitty, Jars and Three Crosses thought we were the best audience they had since being on tour - what can you expect from a bunch of Hoosiers?! The only downside was that I was unable to talk with them afterwards. However, I did manage to make a complete fool of myself waving to them when I saw them on their bus! This night affirmed to me that Jars was, is, and always will be an excellent Christian example to those young and old!
Julie

*Concert Review #2: Washington Concerts 3/21/96 - 3/24/96

From: IsingAlto@aol.com
Well this weekend will go down in the history books as one of the best weekends in my life! Jars in Seattle!!! I don't really know where to begin, how about the beginning?!? Thursday night a free concert scheduled for 8pm in pioneer square sponsored by the local alternative station 107.7 The End. I got there at 5:30pm and there were already easily 400 people in line. The theater seats 421. 45 minutes before the doors were to open, the crowd had more than doubled, they made an announcment that they had added a second show because of the volume of people.
The first 450 or so were let into the theater and then tickets were handed out to the remainig throngs. Approximately 300-350 people were still turned away. I gave my tickets away because I figured someone else could be in there hearing about Jesus. So I missed Thursday's shows, but from the reports I got from Phil, who was backstage, the music did the preaching which I think is the best way to get to some of these people. Friday night was the Michael W. Smith concert and WOW!!! I have to admit I wasn't really into 3 Crosses, but I think it would be really hard for a young band like that to go on their first tour with two Huge names!!! Jars put on a really high energy show!!
Again, very little talking and a lot of music. They did a really cool "Like a Child" right into "Boy on a String" combo that rocked!! "World's Apart" was really moving, I especially liked the Hallelujahs at the end. And of course when the first few measures of "Flood" were played I thought the crowd was going to bring down the roof on the Tacoma Dome!!! Dan was in great voice and the boys looked anything but tired!!! Saturday they headed for Portland OR and I didn't follow them down there, but today (Sunday) they returned to Seattle to play a short set at the rock & roll swap meet put on by the Adult Alternative station 103.7 The Mountain. The crowd was pumped and I was right in front (as if there were any other place to be!!)
They did a really intimate accoustic set. It was just the fab 4 of them, they sent Scott and Aaron on to Spokane to get ready for tonight's show. When the DJ introduced them though he said they would be playing a short set because Dan had a throat infection and needed to rest his voice. Short, I guess, they did a "Fade to Grey/Flood" combo that was SO great and that was all they did. The crowd was begging for more, one lady said to me, "it was like they just teased us with this incredible music and then left" but people understood and thanked them for even that little bit with thunderous applause. The cool thing about the short set was that it gave the band more time to hang out and meet people.

*Concert Review #3: 3/15/96 Anaheim, CA The Pond
From Josh Chandler [98jchand@ultrix.uor.edu]
Hello from Southern California!!!!
I am not much of a critic, but here goes....I was fortunate enough to attend the Micheal W Smith concert Friday (March 15) where as many of you know, Jars were opening. Let me just begin by saying it was the most awesome experience I have had this year.
THREE CROSSES opened with 5 songs. I had never heard their music but just to let you know how much I enjoyed them; I went out and bought their album on Saturday. Their music is just so powerful and glorifying to our awesome God. I highly recommend it.
JARS OF CLAY played after them opening with Liquid (as seems to be the trend). They played for about 30-45 minutes. Just about every song on the album. Then, as they have in the past, they closed with a rocking version of Flood. It was awesome and the The Anaheim Pond was going crazy. Again, without the cello and violin the have a much more raw sound but it was still great. Their new bass player really adds to their music though. I was highly impressed and I am ever thankful for the opportunity to hear them live.
MICHAEL W. SMITH then came on and played a two hour set. Awesome!!!! He was so genuine and true to the Lord. I came away from this concert so encouraged and spirit filled that even today (three days later) I am still flying.
Once again, I highly recommend this concert to you all. If you have the opportunity, bring a friend, between Three Crosses, JOC, and Mikey, they will surely see and feel the love of Christ; that element in our lives that set us apart from the world.
